Interlaken

I'm too tired for words. But a picture is worth a thousand words, and I've uploaded a lot of pictures! :)

Under the Tuscan Sun

Don't roll your eyes, of course I was going to use that caption at least once in Italy! That's not where the cheese ends, if you have a peek at our obligatory Pisa photos.

Highlights:
- Having a bench moment on a farm in Chianti
- Finding the mug of all mugs at 40% off
- Deciding that I like dessert wine because it makes a dinner consisting of five pastas, three types of veal and four desserts much easier to digest
- Scoring leather jackets with my man (and belts and bags and sandals and wallets)
- Opening old school doors at our guest house and pretending that an old Italian couple have taken me into their home while I study the art of gelato making
- Telling Ram off for eating a power bar in Siena Cathedral
- Climbing the bell tower in San Gimignano for views that rival any other winery I've been to ... Barossa Valley in SA, perhaps?
- Overlooking the whole city of Firenze from Piazzale Michaelangelo

Next stop: Interlaken, Switzerland!

in the summertime

It's like medicine for a burnt out life, a thousand breaths of fresh air for your mind and your soul. The buffeting wind that surrenders to a cool breeze by dusk is a magical transition, the chatter down below that is as foreign as it is familiar. The horizon fails to meet the ocean's end, but instead blends together in perfect harmony. A crisp crescent slice of the moon adorns the night sky in the same way a child knows to draw a big white circle to represent nighttime.

And now we have arrived in beautiful, beautiful Florence. No words can describe the intricate detailing on the Piazza del Duomo or the level of sheer awe it brings. Wandering through the cobblestone streets scooping quickly melting dark chocolate gelato evaporates any trace of past resentment I've had for summer. Many photos to come!

Amoudi Bay

Too lazy to take the time to understand how I can caption these photos individually on the iPad. I'm not sure what Greece is doing to me but I'm pretty certain my arteries aren't very happy and neither are my thighs. (See photo of my boyfriend casually doing chin ups on the catamaran.) Tonight I learnt the severe effects that a sugar overload can have on Ram, it's like a Men in Black invasion of the body induced by a humble chocolate soufflé. Scary stuff! Florence is the next stop for us and I'm almost certain that we will be quitting our jobs and studies to open our own gelato joint in Sydney when we return :)

Yiasoo from Oia

This last week has been a whirlwind of battling tiny airplane amenities, foreign foods that leave my growing belly gurgling with infinite happiness, a lot of frustration dealing with my inability to read maps or recall any sense of direction, but above all a feeling like no other everytime I turn a corner to discover yet another local wonder, or a view that literally takes my breath away leaving me to wonder how I will return to my home without yearning to hop on another plane in a heartbeat.

Our inspiration can grow out of the unlikeliest of places. Sometimes a photo can trigger a memory; a memory, emotion - determination. Our drive, our motivation; it's hiding behind doors we're too afraid to knock on, on pages we're too lazy to turn, in the hearts, minds and mouths of people we judge far too quickly to give a chance. Let the element of surprise and the humor of the unknown guide your steps and shape your words. Don't lose hope in the expectation of what life holds.
“There are two great days in a person's life - the day we are born and the day we discover why.” William Barclay
